A Norfolk Staycation

With so many of us opting for a Staycation this summer, there’s surely no better place than Norfolk. The medieval City of Norwich is a must-visit.  It can be explored on foot or on our very own City Sightseeing double-decker tour bus, taking in many of the historic sites such as the Castle, the Cathedrals, Elm Hill, Plantation Gardens and so much more. Norwich is great for some ‘retail therapy’ too, with lots of independent retailers as well as major Department Stores.

But there’s lots more to discover right on our doorstep so get out and explore. Whitlingham Country Park offers a tranquil location set around Whitlingham Great and Little Broads.  There is an Information Centre overlooking the water and for active visitors, there’s the opportunity to hire canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, or try a taster session in archery, mountain biking, wall climbing and more.  With a network of walking and cycling trails to explore, look out for the carved sculptures and the ruins of Trowse Newton Hall (once the country retreat of the Priors of Norwich Cathedral).

For walkers, be sure to pull on your walking boots and walk The Wherryman’s Way - or maybe just a section - it’s nearly 40 miles in total, meandering between Norwich and Great Yarmouth. The walk runs through the heart of the Broads, along the River Yare, through marshes, reedbeds, grazing meadows and riverside villages.  It takes its name from the Norfolk Wherry, once a common sight carrying cargo on the Broads.

Did you know that our sister site The Ingham Swan - located half an hour away from us has 7 bespoke bedrooms making it the perfect place to stay to explore Norfolk. Otherwise, head on over to www.visitnorwich.co.uk for accommodation options close to us and for further inspiration.
