Step behind the scenes at The Wildebeest. Here we’ll share with you a taste of news behind the stove, on our farm and in our restaurant.
It’s official – a new era at The Wildebeest
Over at Our Farm at Tacons in Rollesby they’ve been harvesting a bumper crop of pumpkins ready for Halloween. Pumpkins are a member of the Squash family, native originally to North America but now also very popular here too. Of course they make fantastic Halloween lanterns, carved into scary faces by the children but they’re great in the kitchen too – roasted, pureed or blended.
Growing giant pumpkins is also extremely competitive and in 2014 the UK record went to twins, Ian and Stuart Paton from Hampshire, whose pumpkin weighed in at 1,884 pounds, was 4.5 ft tall and had a circumference of 17ft 4ins!
Autumn brings us a new season and new ideas. It’s the game season and the welcome return of venison, pigeon, duck and guinea fowl as well as some great sea food too to feature on our menus along with the harvest of seasonal fruit and vegetables. The Kitchen team have been busy picking beetroot, cauliflower, curly kale, butternut squash, spinach and leeks too as well as pumpkins.
